1. I speak to myself with compassion

When that harsh inner voice kicks in, I ask myself: “Would I say this to someone I love?” High functioning anxiety thrives on self-criticism. Self-compassion is what moves me forward.

2. I take messy action instead of waiting for perfect

I know that “do it badly” beats doing nothing at all. High functioning anxiety convinces me to wait for perfect conditions, which keeps me paralysed. Taking action, even if it’s messy, keeps me moving forward.

3. I celebrate small wins before moving to what’s next

I pause. I acknowledge. I write down 3 good things that went well each day. My perfectionist brain needs evidence of how far I’ve come not how far I have to go.

4. I say no without guilt

I protect my time and energy. High functioning anxiety has me believing that keeping everyone else happy keeps me safe. But saying yes to everything means saying no to myself.

5. I rest without feeling lazy

I schedule rest like any other important appointment and I honour it. High functioning anxiety convinces me that resting is lazy. But I know that rest is makes me more productive not less. 

6. I challenge my thoughts instead of believing them as facts

When anxiety spirals, I ask: “Is this thought 100% true? What evidence contradicts it?” Observing them with curiosity rather than judgement loosens their grip.

7. I visualise what I want, not what I fear

I stopped forecasting disaster and started focusing on what life looks like when the fear has gone. Our brains can’t tell the difference between imagination and reality, so 10 minutes daily focusing on what I want, changes the way I think and feel. 

I’m not perfect. I still have anxious thoughts. I still have hard days. But I’m committed to practices that rewire my brain from constant anxiety to calm confidence.

The person you want to become in 2026? She’s closer than you think.
