What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is the bringing together of the conscious and subconscious minds in a trance state. It is a safe, powerful technique creating a deeply relaxed state of the body, mind and emotions. It is also a perfectly natural state that we are often in during our everyday lives i.e whilst reading a book, watching television, or doing repeated tasks.
During the session I will guide you into a relaxed trance state by the sound of my voice. Trance is not sleep but a deeply relaxed state. This state is hugely beneficial, as your brain is not only at its optimum resting point, but also at its optimum productivity.
In this relaxed state, the subconscious mind accepts suggestions to promote and reinforce positive messages. So, all suggestions that are positive and solution focused will be taken on board. See Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.
Is it safe?
No-one can be hypnotised against their will and even when in trance, people can still reject any of the suggestions given if they are not appropriate.
Will I reveal personal secrets whilst in Hypnosis?
No. Hypnotherapy is not the same as stage hypnosis, you are in full control of all you say and do.
How many sessions will it take?
The number of sessions required varies.
Phobias usually take 4 sessions, Quit Smoking is 1 session which lasts up to two hours. Other issues are largely dependent upon the client and the presenting issue.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is generally a rapid psychological approach compared with other forms of psychotherapy and most clients notice significant changes after 3-6 sessions. I will be able to give you an indication of time scales at the end of the Initial Consultation.
